NOUN PHRASES
Toki pona is head initial. That means when several toki pona words are next
to each other (and none of them are particles), the first word will be the noun.
All words that follow that word are modifiers. For example,
"kasi telo" can mean
"seaweed," while "telo kasi" can mean "juice."
In sitelen pona, you may put
a modifier either inside or above the word it modifies.

This can
sometimes
work like "of" in english. If the modifier doesn't already
have a meaning that is an adjective (suli can mean large, lete can mean
cold), you can think of modifying a word with it as the head being of the
modifier. For example,
"jan olin" is a "person of loving" and "lipu ma"
could be "book of the earth." "toki pona" can be "language of good."

You can modify the noun with more
than one
adjective.
"ilo nanpa suli"
can mean "gigantic calculator."

In order to modify modifiers, you need to use "pi." pi just shows that
the "of" contains all of the words after it together, instead of one at
a time. For example,
"poki pi kiwen lete" can be a container of cold
rocks, where "poki kiwen lete" would be a hard, cold container.
